blinking away the sleep from her tired eyes, sedgestream made her way towards the apprentices' den. it was still rather dark out, and the small birds that filled the forest hadn't get began to sing their morning song. a few crickets could be heard, making noise, although their sounds would soon be drowned out by those of the clan waking up and getting ready for their busy days. usually, sedgestream would join them, or maybe even be one of the last few to wake up, yet she had planned a training session for her apprentice, russetpaw, and decided that it would be best to take him out early in the morning so that he still had time to socialise with the rest of the clan later in the day.

quietly, she tiptoed into the den, her small stature allowing her to easily sneak around the sleeping apprentices until she finally reached the red-ish tabby. her own kits were also sleeping in the den, and she had to hold herself back from waking them up too and seeing if they wanted to come along, but this was important business. it was her responsibility to make sure that russetpaw became a great warrior, and she couldn't let herself fail by getting distracted by familial bonds. tapping her apprentice softly with her paw, sedgestream whispered, "wake up, russetpaw," she continued, "training time, hon."

Distantly, Russetpaw registered something nudging his side, but the thought of it quickly dissipated as sleep kept it's hold on the apprentice. What did rouse him, however, was the faint sound of talking accompanied by his name.

"–ake up, Russetpaw, training time, hon."

After three long seconds, his bleary eyes finally opened. Yawning, he stretched his front legs out and turned to look at Sedgestream. "... Alright..." He rasped, still half asleep.
Standing up, Russetpaw padded around her to the den entrance, not quite as careful as his mentor had been, and exited into the chilly dawn air. He paused, considering if he should ask to eat first, but decided against it. He didn't feel too hungry anyways.

Sitting next to the entrance to the camp, he awaited.

sedgestream laughed softly, trying not to wake any of the other sleeping apprentices by mistake, at russetpaw's weary rasp, a small smile on her face. with a shake of her willowy pelt, she leaned in to give the tabby a small, affectionate lick to the forehead, noting how despite being almost fifty moons his senior, she didn't even have to bend down a little to do so.

"we're going to be doing some battle training today," she began to purr sweetly, taking very slow strides towards the camp exit before stopping abruptly, "did you want to grab something to eat first, dear?" sedgestream asked, glancing shortly towards the fresh kill pile. she didn't plan to eat until after their session, but wasn't about to take a hungry apprentice out training.

Battle training? He perked up a little bit at that, sure it's tiring, but it's fun.
Sedgestream seemed to read his mind as she mewed, "did you want to grab something to eat first, dear?"

Well... He supposes a small mouse couldn't hurt. It'd be quick, too.

"Hmm... Sure." Russetpaw mumbled, padding back over to the freshkill pile. Browsing through the leftover prey from the previous day, he nabbed a scrawny looking mouse and a fair looking shrew before returning to his mentor's side.
He dropped both pieces of prey and slid the shrew over to Sedgestream, and began to eat. The mouse, being small as it was, was simply bones in just a minute. There wasn't much meat on the thing to begin with, anyway.

Sitting back up, he looked over to the tortoiseshell she-cat once again.

sedgestream purred at russetpaw's response, happy that the young tom was wise enough to eat before a training session- he would be super worn out afterwards if he didn't, especially with how much work they had planned for today. yet, she wasn't expecting him to also bring her a meal too. pleasantly surprised, sedgestream smiled widely and gratefully thanked him with a nudge to the forehead before leaning down to eat.

once finished, she began to speak again, "okay, come on now, it's actually time to train," sedgestream chuckled lightly, thinking about how much time the two had taken just getting ready to leave, "we'll be heading towards the forest, no chance of running into any nightclanners there," she explained before wrapping her long tail lightly around russetpaw, motioning for him to follow her towards their training grounds.
