Written in the Stars

Curlypaw followed after his mentor, his sight and senses focused on things much different than what Cloudchaser had honed in upon within the Oakclan territory. The curly-furred apprentice had tried his best since they left the clan entrance to follow Cloudchaser, always only a few paw-steps away, but as they reached further into the territory, it was hard for the very young tom to not get distracted.

He instantly spotted a small clump of blooming flowers, more importantly, chamomile flowers. The son of the clan's current medicine cat stopped briefly to sniff them, his blue eyes wide in excitement. Herbs! Like his mentor, he had noticed though that the patch was small and wilting due to the heat and dryness. Noticing that Cloudchaser was moving forward through the trees and along the river, Curlypaw bounded after him, stumbling over a few rocks and branches on his way back to him.

He gazed into the river, up into the tree tops above, taking in the bird song and rustling leaves.
Again, the apprentice fell behind when he a dragonfly buzzed past him, and he walked after it, crouching to watch as it landed on a jutting branch before him. Wide-eyed again, he observed the beautiful creature as it sat there, unaware of the potential predator's gaze locked onto it.

That's when Cloudchaser called back to him.

Curlypaw nearly jumped out of his fur, caught off guard, and the dragonfly zoomed away. Licking his chest briefly in embarassment, Curlypaw dashed back to his mentor, smiling. 

"uhhhhm"


Curlypaw's gears worked in his brain now. 

"be aware of your surroundings!" Curlypaw stated confidently. "Take time to think, uhm, and use all your abilities!" With such a broad question, the fluffy tom attempted to answer in a suitable way, looking up at the warrior with hopefulness in his answers.
