Wolfpaw fits the general stereotype for DawnClan cats: he is large and stocky with a soft coat of long, thick gray fur and dark tabby stripes. He has large white paws that have fur sticking out between the toes, a soft white underbelly, chest, and muzzle. He has a distinct diamond-like marking on his forehead between his tabby stripes.

Wolfpaw suffers from an inferiority complex stemming from his birth. He is constantly living in self doubt and self loathing, often blaming himself for the death of his mother. Wolfpaw is soft spoken and rarely speaks his mind, usually regretting it when he does. He often finds himself feeling guilty about anything possible, whether it be missing a catch while hunting to making his father hate him by being born.

Wolfpaw was born to Ivyspark and Littleflame. Their relationship was one of benefits, and it was a shock to both when they found that Littleflame was expecting kits. Ivyspark was disinterested, but Littleflame found herself excited as the prospect of finally having family to take care of. However, Littleflame was unable to fulfill that desire; Wolfkit was born first, but his other littermate got stuck backwards during the birth, consequently killing them both. A moon earlier, Ivyspark’s brother, Stoatclaw, and his mate, Ashrunner, gave birth to a litter of kits themselves. After Littleflame’s passing, Stoatclaw was furious at Ivyspark’s dismissive attitude toward Wolfkit. They decided to adopt Wolfkit, naming him after the wolves that howled during the night of his birth.

Wolfkit grew up alongside his adopted littermates, Magpiepaw and Mossypaw. He kept himself isolated from the two, often feeling guilty for taking a spot in Ashrunner’s nest and drinking her milk; Wolfkit always believed it took away from her biological kits, and believed they deserved it more than him. Wolfkit was always fond of Ashrunner though, and doesn’t believe that there’s a way he can repay the debt he owes to her for taking care of him through kit hood. 

When Magpiepaw and Mossypaw became apprentices, Ashrunner was going to stay in the nursery with Wolfkit until he became an apprentice as well. However, Wolfkit felt guilty from keeping her from her warrior duties and nest with Stoatclaw, and despite Ashrunner’s protests, slept alone in the nursery. After a few days of struggling to reason with him, Ashrunner let him be and went back to her warrior duties. The nights were cold and lonely, but Wolfkit felt relieved to have let his adoptive mother go back to her old life, without him burdening her with his presence.
