The twoleg smog and the fuzzy golden beacons along the streets made for a mesmerizing sight in the midnight air. The occasional low whine of a monster in the distance echoed through fog and rattled the skinny trees as their bare branches scraped at the dark sky. The sleek colorpoint cat that padded beneath couldn’t help but find some interest in the wayward dancing of the bony sticks in the nippy breeze as she languidly navigated around the shadows of the French Quarter.

Beignet often wandered these parts all over, laying personal claim to whatever suited her fancy. Yet, of all the exotic spots for a cat to find comfort in, she found herself returning to the resting place of the twolegs nearby in its quiet and overgrown desolation. The old wrought iron fence was black and twisted in spots, but not difficult to worm through or climb over, and it had plenty of hiding spots between all the dense weeds and wildflowers, odd crumbling stones, and clutter of twoleg offerings.

Pulling herself out from under one of the old stone structures, the young she-cat arched her back with a stretch before shaking the cobwebs out of her pelt. The lazy golden glow overhead allowed enough low light for her to make out enough of a tangled path ahead of her. As if fate, she hummed softly and padded with a pleasant, slow gait down the newfound route through the cemetery. She ignored the cat scent that floated around in the air, knowing that the area was likely well-trodden by many others. Such wouldn’t dissuade her from her wandering. With an occasional twitch of an ear and the soft jangle of her collar, Beignet plodded on into the dusky embrace of the boneyard with little regard.
